In 1954, Vons employees, with Company support, founded the Vons Employees Federal Credit Union as a means of providing financial products and services to Vons employees and their families at competitive rates. In 2001, Vons Credit Union expanded our field of membership to include anyone who lives, works, attends school or worships in the areas of El Monte, South El Monte, Monrovia, Irwindale and parts of Temple City and Arcadia. Companies located in the areas listed above that would like to offer Vons Credit Union membership as an additional employee benefit are also eligible for Vons Credit Union membership. Members of Vons Credit Union own and oversee the activities of the credit union. Vons has no direct or indirect financial interest in the operation of Vons Credit Union.
In 2010, Vons Credit Union acquired Certified Federal and now serves the employees of Unified Grocers and the stores they serve.

We’re “just like a bank” because we’re a full-service financial institution offering everything from basic banking accounts, like savings and checking accounts and Christmas Club to auto loans, home mortgages, home equity lines of credit and credit cards. We also offer free online banking, free bill pay, and more than 30,000 ATM locations across the United States. We have an awesome Mobile App and offer surcharge-free cash at many of our ATM locations across the United States. You’ll find Vons Credit Union branches in El Monte (Corporate Office), San Diego, San Fernando Valley, Arcadia, Santa Fe Springs, Fullerton and more than 7,000 Service Centers in 40 U.S. states and seven countries.
The reason we are “better” than a bank is that we’re a non-profit organization that returns its profits to members – unlike big corporate banks that must show a profit to its shareholders every quarter. Vons Credit Union is a not-for-profit organization that answers only to its volunteer Board of Directors. By law, we must return our profits to members, typically in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings yields and fewer fees. One more important point; banks are huge corporations that often become too large to provide good service. Vons Credit Union is member owned and committed to excellent customer service – one member at a time.

Vons Credit Union has more than $430 million in assets with more than $80 million in reserves. We are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), which regulates the operation of federally chartered and insured credit unions. Your share deposits are federally insured up to at least $250,000 by this organization, so you have the peace of mind that your money is safe with us. Additionally, we are certified as an Equal Housing Lender.
Both the National Credit Union Administration and our external auditors, Richards & Associates state that the Vons Credit Union is operating in a safe and sound manner. Credit unions are evaluated periodically by federal examiners.
